Rep John Doolittle and Sen. Pete Domenici have joined the growing ranks of Republicans fed up with the course of the war in Iraq.

Speaking at a town hall meeting, Doolittle had this to say:

"I don't want to keep having our people dying on the front lines. I am increasingly convinced that we never are going to succeed in actually ending people dying (in Iraq). I think it's going to be a constant conflict ... and if that is going to happen ... it needs to be the Iraqis dying and not the Americans."

I'll I have to say is "Welcome to the sane side of the street Congressman."

I think, however, the sentiment he expresses, preferring that Iraqis die instead of Americans, misses a vital point that those long opposed to the war have been saying, which is that we are responsible for precipitating this bloodshed. Pulling out, with any luck, will reduce the bloodshed, but we should not condemn the Iraqi people as responsible for the fighting and completely wipe our consciences of any fault.
