Gaza Economy Collapsing

With Hamas now in control of Gaza, Israel has cut off the main commercial border crossing limiting what crosses the border to food and medicine.

The International Herald Tribune reports that the UN, which cares for 70% of the Gazan population, still considered refugees, has ceased all construction work due to a lack of building materials. The construction freeze means the loss of 121,000 jobs alone.

Has Israel cut off its nose to spite its face on the Hamas issue? There is considerable evidence that poverty and desperation are greater motivators than fanaticism when in comes to terrorism. Will we see another wave of suicide bombings that will be used as justification for an Israeli invasion of Gaza?
