Fragile Immigration Deal Facing Killer Amendments In Senate Votes newsvine furl google yahoo netscape

Several key provisions of the bi-partisan immigration deal are under assault from amendments being considered in the Senate this week.

One amendment seeks to strip "points" from the process to get a green card that would award being part of the community. Owning a home and having insurance would no longer make getting a green card any easier under the proposed amendment.

One amendment seeks to attack the guest worker provisions by requiring employers to attempt to secure U.S. Workers before hiring guest workers. This is, of course, a fundamental waste of time as most guest workers already do jobs Americans don't want.

These, and many other proposals, are just attacks from the extremes in a desperate attempt to derail the process.
