In the face of world-wide criticism of its product safety record, China closed 180 food plants that make candy, pickles, crackers and seafood due to problems in the manufacturing process.

The Chinese found traces of formaldehyde, illegal dyes and industrial wax in products.

Meanwhile, importers in Japan and the U.S. Continue to recall Chinese made products such as toothpaste due to concerns about how the products were made and what they contain.
