Expressing his concern that the Immigration bill is stalled in Congress, president George W Bush committed to work to get the bill passed upon his return from overseas.

Bush has made immigration the most important focus of his second term and as such plans to meet with Senate Republicans on Tuesday afternoon to work on a solution to the problem.

It is unclear to me what Bush can offer the Senators to get the bill passed that will not prevent Democrats from voting for the bill. Perhaps Democrats would be willing to see the bill watered down slightly if the bill's passage works to further erode the Republican base.
